Most of the Gudgeon Pins are hollow cylinders made out of special alloy steels having highly polished and hard outer surface to bear the wear and tear due to the to and from motion of the Piston shaft.

Infact if there is a Piston, a Piston Pin is always there. Gudgeon Pins/Piston Pins are also used for overhauling of old engines. Every time overhauling of an engine is done it is advisable to change the Gudgeon Pin set so that such a vital part is not set out to an uncalculated risk of breaking while the engine is running.
